Preparing your skin for the summertime

How can you survive the summer with minimal damage to your skin?

We skincare practitioners usually invite you to come for skin renewal treatments in the winter. This is the ideal time to peel, firm, treat spots, and more. But in the summer, the skin requires a different type of care. Anyone who is planning on spending time outdoors in the summer, suntanning and vacationing, knows that this is not the time to use peeling products. After all, they require taking precautions against prolonged sun exposure. So how can we care for our skin in the summertime? And how can we minimize damage?

When we talk about sun damage, we mean: spots, dry skin, fine lines, and changes in skin texture. All these happen due to exposure to UV radiation, and also due to the proliferation of free radicals, which are caused by prolonged sun exposure. The sun also damages the skin’s healthy barrier, and reduces its hydration levels.

How can we prepare for all these?

  • We’ll use sunscreen (at least SPF 30) whenever we go outdoors. Apply to all the exposed areas including the neck, décolletage, arms and hands, and minimize sun exposure as much as possible.
  • Wear sunglasses, try to stay in the shade as much as possible when at the beach, and reapply sunscreen after getting out of the water.
  • Use a cream with antioxidants on a regular basis. Antioxidants will help to counteract the damage from the free radicals that are rampant in the summer. This way we can protect the skin and maintain its beauty and healthy functioning.
  • Using crystal exfoliator – an at-home product. The crystals will gently exfoliate the skin. They will remove dead skin cells and enable healthy renewal and smoother skin. The product can be used in the summertime, even for individuals who are exposed to the sun.
  • For individuals who avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, a gentle peel can be matched according to the client’s skin tone, age, condition of the skin, and her habits / hobbies. There is a variety of peels, which are available at skincare clinics. They are reasonably priced for any budget. But it’s very important that they are matched following a professional assessment and completion of a health questionnaire. The instructions for use make all the difference. And the instructions for use are unique for each user.
  • Don’t rely on the SPF in makeup. It’s usually around SPF 15, and it’s not enough in hot country. Buy a better sunscreen and use it in addition.
  • Prevention hinders the formation of spots by using a product that inhibits the formation of melanin. More on this in the next tip.
